Precision Milling
Old Wood, Modern Precision
Reclaimed lumber often arrives as rough-sawn, irregular, nail-scarred timber. Turning that raw material into a finished product — flooring that installs flat, paneling with consistent tongue-and-groove joints, beams surfaced to reveal hidden grain — requires specialized equipment and deep experience with aged wood.
Our milling operation processes thousands of board feet per week. We handle everything from single custom mantels to production runs of 10,000+ board feet of matched flooring. Every piece is milled with the same attention to tolerance, grain direction, and defect management that makes the difference between reclaimed wood that looks intentional and reclaimed wood that just looks old.
Profile Options
Available Profiles
Standard profiles ready to run, or send us your custom drawings. We can replicate virtually any molding or board profile.
S4S (Surfaced Four Sides)
Smooth, uniform boards ready for finish applications. We surface all four sides to exact thickness and width tolerances of +/- 1/32". Standard for cabinetry, furniture, and trim work.
Tongue & Groove
Interlocking profiles for flooring, ceiling, and wall paneling. Available in standard 3/4" and 1/2" thicknesses with tongue widths from 1/4" to 3/8". V-groove, bead, or flat-joint options.
Shiplap
Overlapping rabbet joint for siding, accent walls, and paneling. We mill shiplap in widths from 4" to 10" with standard 1/2" or 3/4" reveal. Square-edge or eased-edge profiles.
Board & Batten
Wide boards paired with narrow battens for a classic vertical look. We mill matched sets from the same salvage source to ensure consistent color and grain character.
Ship Decking / V-Groove
Heavy-duty tongue-and-groove with V-shaped channel between boards. Originally used in marine applications, now popular for covered porches, ceilings, and commercial interiors.
Custom Moldings & Trim
Crown molding, baseboards, casing, and specialty profiles milled from reclaimed stock. We can match existing historic profiles or create new designs from your drawings.
Our Shop
Equipment & Capabilities
Processing reclaimed wood demands equipment that can handle the unexpected: hidden metal, irregular dimensions, extremely hard old-growth grain, and material stress from decades of service. Our shop is purpose-built for these challenges.
Every piece of reclaimed timber passes through our industrial metal detector before reaching any cutting or surfacing equipment. This protects both our tooling and your finished product from the embedded fasteners that are inevitable in salvaged material.
Up to 52" width, producing glass-smooth surfaces to 150-grit without tear-out
Cuts timbers up to 24" x 24" for bookmatched slabs and thin stock as fine as 1/8"
Four-head moulder producing T&G, shiplap, and custom profiles at production speed
Precision ripping to width with +/- 1/32" accuracy on boards up to 6" thick
Computer-controlled cutting for mortises, dados, and complex joinery in reclaimed timber
In-house kiln drying to 6-8% MC, eliminating insects and ensuring dimensional stability
The Process
From Raw Timber to Finished Product
Metal Detection
Industrial scanning removes all embedded nails, screws, and wire before milling.
Rough Sizing
Bandsaw resawing and initial ripping to approximate target dimensions.
Kiln Drying
Dried to 6-8% moisture content for stability and pest elimination.
Surfacing & Profiling
Planing, moulding, and sanding to final dimensions and profile.
QC & Packaging
Graded, stickered, banded, and wrapped for transport.

Pricing Guidelines
Milling is priced per board foot or per lineal foot depending on the operation. Pricing varies based on species hardness, profile complexity, and order volume.
Minimum milling order: 100 board feet. Volume discounts available on orders exceeding 1,000 BF.
Custom Processing
Bring Your Own Wood
Have your own reclaimed timber that needs processing? We offer milling-only services for customer-supplied material. Bring us your rough-sawn boards, salvaged beams, or raw logs and we will transform them into finished product.
All customer-supplied wood must pass through our metal detector before milling. We charge a nominal inspection fee to cover this step, which protects our tooling and ensures clean cuts on your material.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers you need, fast
Quick answers to the most common questions customers ask about this page. If you need anything else, reach out and we'll help right away.
What milling services do you offer in-house?
Planing, resawing, surfacing, ripping, jointing, kiln drying, tongue-and-groove, shiplap, bevel, and custom knife profiles.
Can you match an existing flooring or siding profile?
Yes. Bring a sample or measurements and we can grind knives to match most historic and modern profiles.
How do you handle metal in reclaimed lumber before milling?
Every piece is metal-detected and de-nailed to protect blades and ensure clean, safe milling.
What moisture content do you target after kiln drying?
For interior products we target 6–8% MC; exterior siding is usually dried to 10–12% depending on install conditions.
Do you offer precision thickness and width tolerances?
Yes. We routinely hit ±1/32 inch tolerances on finished dimensions for flooring and paneling sets.
Can you surface only one face for a rustic look?
Absolutely. We can skip-plane or surface a single face to preserve saw marks and character while ensuring flat install.
How long do milling jobs take?
Simple surfacing can be done in a few days; kiln + profiling runs typically take 1–2 weeks depending on volume.
Can you provide mockups before full production?
We can mill small sample runs so clients can approve profile, thickness, and finish before the main batch.
Do you handle waste disposal from milling?
Yes. We recycle sawdust and offcuts, keeping your order clean and minimizing waste.
What species do you commonly mill?
Douglas fir, oak, cedar, pine, and mixed softwoods from regional salvage projects.
